i. — Chapter one · Imprint · 1998

The first brochure.

Imprint — a cream brochure on stone with a small embossed bird-of-paradise
i. Imprint 1998
Centre Piece '99 — a centerfold for the inaugural showcase, designed at sixteen. The first piece of work that left the studio.

The brochure was set on a Macintosh nobody trusted, run twice through a four-colour press at the corner shop, and folded by hand in the school library the night before the show. It was not very good. But it taught one thing that the next twenty-six years didn't unteach — that the work has to leave the studio, even if the studio is a back-bedroom and the kerning is still wrong.

An imprint is not a logo. It is the small mark a piece of work leaves when it is set in front of someone who didn't ask for it.

— Designed at sixteen · printed in Malé · folded in a school library
ii. — Chapter two · Stage · 2001

An Olympus production.

Stage — empty proscenium with a single warm spotlight under deep velvet curtains
Stage management is the discipline of cueing — the knowledge that the audience will arrive whether or not the lighting plot is fixed.
— Mezzo Band launch · production manager · Olympus, Malé · 2001
First commercial gig. A theatre stage, a band, a printed programme typeset in the small hours, a lighting plot scribbled on the back of an envelope.

The discipline of cueing — knowing what fires when, what lands on whose foot, who has the next line — became the discipline of every project that followed. Studios are stages. Launches are productions. The audience always arrives.

Four projects, four lives in one practice.

Network · Maldives Creative Hub · 2010 ✱ shelved
A live underwater cabinet meeting. A children's app in Dhivehi. The first art resort in the country. An unrealised national framework still on the shelf.

The fieldwork from five atolls in 2010–11 informed every project that came after. The framework itself was shelved by the political turmoil of 2011, but the network — the people in five atolls who became collaborators — didn't shelve.

01

oala.app — a Dhivehi school in your pocket.

— In Production · 2024 →

A learning application for Maldivian children, ages 3–11. Critical thinking and Dhivehi Language Arts, taught in the language they speak at home. Building what the national curriculum hasn't.

02

Oaga Art Resort.

— Open · 2022

The first true art resort in the Maldives. Open-community model, Gallery Rooms for resident artists, theatrical dining, the country's first authentic local spa experience.

03

Five islands, reclaimed.

— Delivered · 2016–19

Project-managed five islands in Malé Atoll. Hired and trained a generation of young Maldivians into surveyors, carpenters, MEP technicians.

04

Maldives Creative Hub — a network on the shelf.

— Concept · 2010 · awaiting

A national framework for the creative industries — drafted at MEC, shelved by 2011's political turmoil. The fieldwork from five atolls still informs every project that came after.

iv. — Chapter four · Mundu Hiyaal · since 2008

Notes from a practising mind.

Signal — a CRT screen showing colour bars in Maldivian indigo, cream and lagoon teal
iv. Signal 2008
Mundu Hiyaal — Maldivian thought. Long-form writing on instruction design, experience design, and the cultural moment in the islands.

The Atoll TV broadcast room in 2008 taught the difference between transmitting and being heard — between the late-night colour-bar standby and the moment a programme actually reaches a living room. Some pieces in English. Some in Dhivehi. None in a hurry.

Resourceful problem-solving, delivered together — for hospitality groups, education ventures, and communications campaigns that need both strategic clarity and someone who has built it before.

— Engagement process

i. Status audit. A discussion to uncover goals, pain points, and the opportunities hiding inside them.

ii. Strategic analysis. Independent diagnosis. Where the system is leaking. Where it is quietly working.

iii. Collaborative brainstorm. Working sessions with your team — building the vocabulary so the strategy survives.

iv. Strategic roadmap. A clear, concise document with actionable recommendations and a phased plan.

vi. The Studio 2026
A working archive of prototypes, demos, and one-offs from current and past projects. Most live at their own URLs.

The Atelier holds the biographical work — five rooms, 1998 → 2026, the chapters that taught the next chapter. The Studio holds what's on the workbench right now — pieces still in motion, prototypes still being passed around, drafts that haven't yet decided what they want to be.
